My Story
Mine is a story of weight loss, disease prevention, and abounding joy.
In 2003, my father gave me a copy of Living Nutrition Magazine to read an article he had written. I read the entire magazine and was amazed at what I was seeing. It was all about raw foods. I had heard of vegetarian and vegan diets but never raw food. The more I read the more it came to me that OF COURSE we are supposed to eat raw foods. It made perfect sense that our bodies are designed to eat only raw. At that time I weighed 205 pounds.
I subscribed to Living Nutrition and purchased their recipe book Favorite Alive Raw Food Recipes. Then I bought Roe Gallo’s book Perfect Body. Her book pushed me over the tipping point. It got me to understand the workings of my body, how I process food and what my organs need to be nourished in order to function properly. I read it in one day!
In November 2005 I had a cold for over 3 weeks that would not go away. I was abusing myself with alcohol, fast food, and not exercising. It took 1 1/2 years of studying the raw food lifestyle before I decided to make some changes in my diet. After all the testimonials I had read, I knew I could only feel better. Hopefully I would lose some weight at the same time. I had no idea it was going to change my life forever!
I told my self that I would go raw for 3 days, shake the cold, and then see how I felt. Well, after the 3 days I felt great! My cold had not gone away but I had more energy. I continued eating all raw for 7 days. On the 8th day I began to experience a healing crisis. Headaches that I don’t normally have along with body aches and sensitivity like I had never felt, my eye sockets hurt. I felt horrible and I was happy. I slept and rested for over 14 hours in my darkened bedroom. I didn’t eat or drink anything but water. I knew I was experiencing a thorough cleansing.
Day 11 brought mental clarity I have never experienced and an absolute calmness and joy that I wanted to continue to feel for the rest of my life.
I lost 45 lbs. in 5 months. I went from only being able to walk-jog 2/10 of a mile to participating and completing a 5k run after training for only 2 months. My body is so ready and wanting to exercise, it amazes me. This is so not like the old me to crave exercise. Look, I failed P.E. in high school. I cannot express how much I hated exercise and how self conscience I was. So much so that I never participated in sport activities. Now, I feel the need to keep moving, and it feels wonderful! Exercise is so critical in keeping your body healthy and youthful and it feels good.
